Laban - Intro to Bartenieff Fundamentals Weekend Workshop

September 11-12, 2010 • 9:00am-5pmHeights of Wellness
Intro to Bartenieff Fundamentals weekend course taught by Kista Tucker (CMA, RSMT, MFA, BS) of Kista Tucker Dance, Inc.

This is a 15-hour Intro to Bartenieff Fundamentals Course designed to satisfy the prerequisite BF requirements of the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies program in NYC. Please note: if only one day is completed, the participant will gain significant information, but will not complete the LIMS prerequisite requirement.

Basic Qigong (Chi Kung)

Lecture
What is Qi and Qigong? How does Qigong maintain health and increase longevity? We’ll focus on Medical Qigong and different usage of Breathing techniques.
This workshop will help the beginner understand the basic concepts of Qigong.

12:00 ~ 1:00 PM
One Hour lunch break
It’s recommend to bring pre-prepare lunch, we have water and tea also some fruits and light snacks.

1:00 ~ 4:00 PM (with 15 minutes break)
Qigong practice, Qigong warm ups, breath work and medical Qigong will be introduced.

Introduction to Taijiquan

Saturday October 16th, 2010 9:00 ~ 4:00 pm

Lecture
Taijiquan is one form of Qigong. What is Taiji and how does the philosophy apply to the sequence?
Understand the 13 postures, the basic movement that Taijiquan is building on.
Learn the proper alignment of the body, timing, balance, coordination, rooting, and the flow of Qi.

Five Animal Sports Qigong  Part I

Saturday November 13th, 9:00 – 4:00 pm

The Five Animal Sports are one of the most ancient and popular sets of medical Qigong exercises. Passed down for nearly 2.000 years, it is an effective, fun, and sometime humorous way to energize the entire body. By imitating the movements and spirit of the Tiger, deer, Bear, Monkey, and Bird, a practitioner can build their strength and longevity inside and out, and enjoy excellent health.
Learn the correspondence between the internal organs, Five Elements theory and the Healing Sound.
12:00 – 1:00 PM

1:00 – 4:00 pm (with 15 minutes break)
There are five movements to each Animal. We’ll learn first 3 movements out of the 5 movements in this session. Part II will be offering on Dec. 4th 2010.

Mindful Path Programs

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for the Prevention of Relapse Depression (MBCT)

NOTE: An initial consultation with the facilitator is required.

Tuesdays, beginning September 21, 2010 (8 weeks) 6:00-8:30pm

$450 Most insurance will partially reimburse for this therapeutic group program.

The focus of this program is the utilization of mindful (relaxed and focused) attention as an alternative to a ruminative and worrying thought process. Research clearly indicated that worrying, looping and over-thinking amplify and aggravate the hallmarks for depression: feelings of worthlessness, guilt, global negativism, perfectionism, self-condemnation, and intense fear of the future.
Through instruction and practice you will systematically learn skills that will enhance your ability to recognize and cope more effectively with stressful thought patterns, situations and triggers.

Through instruction and practice you will systematically learn skills that can increase your ability to relax, improve your ability to cope more effectively with stressful situations, and enhance your ability to cope with pain. Other benefits reported have included greater energy, improved self-esteem, and a sense of well-being.

Chinese Calligraphy Workshop @ Heights of wellness

February 28th, 2009 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

This workshop offered by dancEnlight artistic director, Lorelei Chang and her twin sister from Japan, Mai Nakanishi. They both are the Chinese Calligraphy award winners for Tokyo Museum for Jan, 2009. The workshop introduces you to one of the most beautiful ancient Chinese fine arts, Chinese calligraphy which has thousands of years of history. Chinese calligraphy is not only a practical technique for writing Chinese characters, but also a unique oriental art of expression, a tool to help ease physical and mental tension, reduce stress and a great learning discipline. You will learn some basic elements, strokes and fundamental techniques of Chinese calligraphy brush work through this workshop. We will teach you to create your own piece of Chinese calligraphy on traditional rice paper.
Have fun learning this fascinating art. All the supplies will be provided. Bring a friend or two and your high spirit.
Cost: $25 per person.
